Take it all back. Any time.
If you want out of Brenda, here's exactly how. We honour every deletion request — your data is yours, not ours. Two paths below: in-app (instant) and by email (we reply within 30 days).
Who this applies to
This page covers Brenda, a personal-finance app published by Brenda Labs (developer name on the Google Play store listing). If you have a Brenda account on iOS, Android, or web, the steps below apply to you.
Option 1 — Delete from inside the app (recommended)
- Open the Brenda app on your phone.
- Tap Profile in the bottom tab bar.
- Tap Privacy & Security.
- Tap Delete account.
- Read the confirmation screen, then type
DELETEand tap Confirm deletion.
Your account is signed out immediately. All data tied to your account enters a 30-day soft-deletion window during which we cannot recover it. After 30 days it is permanently purged from our systems.
Option 2 — Request deletion by email
If you can't sign in (lost device, forgotten credentials, or anything else), email privacy@usebrenda.com from the email address you signed up with. Include:
- Subject: Account deletion request
- Your account email (the one tied to Brenda)
- The full name on your profile (helps us verify it's you)
- Confirmation that you want your account and all associated data deleted
We reply with a confirmation within 7 days and complete deletion within 30 days of receipt, in line with applicable data-protection laws (GDPR, CCPA).
What gets deleted
The following are permanently removed:
- Profile — your name, email, profile photo, password hash, and any preferences.
- Bank connections — Plaid items are revoked; we lose access to your bank read-only feed and the underlying tokens are destroyed on Plaid's side.
- Transactions — all imported and manual transactions, splits, and categorizations.
- Budgets & categories — every budget, category, item, and rollover history.
- Goals & contributions — goals, savings progress, contributions, and milestones.
- Brenda coach — every conversation thread you've had with the AI coach.
- Wrapped summaries — generated monthly recaps tied to your account.
- Gamification — streaks, XP, levels, badges.
- Push tokens & notifications — push devices and notification history.
- Subscription metadata — the Brenda-side record of your subscription (status, plan, period). The store-side billing relationship is managed by Google Play / Apple separately (see below).
- Biometric credentials — registered Face ID / Touch ID / fingerprint enrolments.
What we keep, and for how long
A small amount of information is retained for legal, security, or operational reasons. None of it is used to identify you for product purposes after deletion.
- Encrypted backups — daily database backups roll over on a 30-day cycle. Your data is removed from live systems on deletion, but a copy may exist in encrypted backups for up to 30 days, after which it is overwritten.
- Access & security logs — request logs (IP, user agent, route) retained up to 90 days for fraud detection and incident response. Logs are not joined to your profile after deletion.
- Aggregated analytics — counts and metrics that contain no personally identifying information (e.g. "monthly active users") are retained indefinitely.
- Payment / billing records — Brenda never sees your payment card. Your subscription billing history sits with Google Play Billing (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS); their retention is governed by their own policies. Cancel auto-renew there before deleting your Brenda account if you want to stop being billed.
- Anonymized crash & diagnostic logs — held by Expo/EAS for up to 90 days, never joined to your account after deletion.
- Legal compliance records — anything we are required by law to keep (e.g. tax records for paid subscriptions) is retained only for the period that the law requires, and then deleted.
Cancel your subscription first
Deleting your Brenda account does not cancel an active subscription with the App Store or Google Play. To stop being billed:
- Android: Open the Google Play Store → tap your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → select Brenda → Cancel subscription.
- iOS: Open Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → select Brenda → Cancel subscription.
Can I recover my account after deletion?
Within the 30-day soft-deletion window, email privacy@usebrenda.com from your original account email and we will attempt recovery. After 30 days the data is permanently destroyed and cannot be restored — you would need to sign up as a new user.
Want a copy of your data first?
You can request a data export before deleting your account by emailing privacy@usebrenda.com. We deliver a JSON archive of your profile, transactions, budgets, goals, and coach threads within 30 days.
