Plain rules for a quiet relationship with your money.
These are the terms you agree to by using Brenda. They're written to be read by humans, not just by lawyers — but they're still a contract. Take a few minutes.
§01Acceptance
By creating a Brenda account, linking a bank account, or otherwise using our app, website, or services (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
These terms are between you and Brenda Labs (“Brenda,” “we,” “us”).
§02Eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You must be legally able to enter into a contract where you live.
- You must not be barred from using financial services under U.S. or other applicable law.
- The financial accounts you link must be yours, or accounts you're authorized to manage.
§03Your account
You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials safe and for the activity on your account. Tell us promptly at security@usebrenda.com if you think someone else has accessed it.
We may require you to verify your email or phone number before some features become available.
§04What Brenda is — and isn't
Brenda is a personal finance app. It helps you see your spending, build budgets, set goals, and have a friendlier conversation with your money.
Brenda is not a bank, a broker-dealer, an investment adviser, a tax preparer, or a credit-counseling agency. We don't move your money, give regulated financial advice, or guarantee any outcome you read inside the app.
The in-app coach generates suggestions using your data and a language model. Treat them as opinionated nudges from a thoughtful friend, not as professional financial, tax, or legal advice. If a decision is material, talk to a licensed professional.
§05Bank connections (Plaid)
Bank accounts are linked through Plaid, a regulated data provider. By linking an account, you authorize us — through Plaid — to receive transactions, balances, and basic account details for accounts you choose, on a read-only basis.
You can disconnect any bank connection at any time from Profile → Bank links. We'll stop pulling new data immediately.
§06Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Sign in to anyone else's bank account, or link accounts you aren't authorized to manage.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or attempt to extract data from the Service except through features we provide.
- Use the Service to launder funds, evade taxes, or violate any applicable law.
- Probe, attack, overload, or interfere with the Service or anyone using it.
- Submit anything to the in-app coach that you don't have the right to share, or that's designed to get the model to produce harmful output.
§07Your content
You keep ownership of the content you put into Brenda — notes you write on transactions, goals you set, messages to the coach. By putting them in, you give us permission to store, display, and process that content as needed to run the Service for you.
We do not use your content to train AI models for third parties or for any purpose other than serving you.
§08Pricing and payments
Brenda is free during early access. If we introduce paid plans, we'll show pricing clearly before you opt in, and these terms will be updated to cover billing, renewal, refunds, and cancellation.
§09Beta features
Some parts of the Service are explicitly labeled experimental, beta, or early access. They may change, break, or disappear without notice and are provided as-is.
§10Suspension and termination
You can delete your account anytime from Profile → Privacy & security → Delete account. We'll revoke bank connections and remove your records as described in the Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, if your bank connection is repeatedly flagged for fraud, or if we're legally required to.
§11Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, Brenda disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the data we receive from your bank or Plaid is complete or accurate.
§12Limit of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Brenda's total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) US $100. Brenda is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption.
§13Indemnification
You agree to defend and hold Brenda harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of the Service, your violation of these terms, or your infringement of someone else's rights.
§14Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, unless your local law gives you the right to use a different forum.
§15Changes to these terms
We'll let you know in the app before material changes take effect and update the “last updated” date at the top. If you keep using the Service after that, you accept the new terms. If you don't want to, you can delete your account.
